Platelet rich plasma (PRP)
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated blood sample that contains high levels of platelets, a critical component of the wound healing process. Platelets contain growth factors that are responsible for stimulating tissue generation and repair.
Clinical studies have shown that application of PRP can help reduce bleeding, minimize pain, reduce infection rates, and optimize overall healing.

Cone Beam Tomography
Utilizing cone beam technologies in our practice provides us with great advantages in maxillofacial imaging. Cone beam CT gives detailed images of the jaw bones and is performed to evaluate diseases of the jaw, dentition, and bony structures of the face, nasal cavity and sinuses.
Dental cone beam CT is commonly used for treatment planning and is also useful for more complex cases that involve:
- Periodontal diseases
- Surgical planning for impacted teeth
- Diagnosing temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)
- Accurate placement of dental implants
- Evaluation of the jaw, sinuses, nerve canals and nasal cavity
- Determining bone structure and tooth orientation
- Locating the origin of pain or pathology
Laser Treatment of Gum Disease
Lasers can be used to treat periodontal disease. Current controlled studies have shown that similar results have been found with the laser compared to specific other treatment options, including scaling and root planing alone. Scaling and root planning is a traditional non-surgical therapy used to treat periodontal diseases.
The PerioLase® laser is used as part of Laser Periodontal Treatment to remove harmful bacteria and diseased tissue from the gum pocket by passing a laser light between gum and tooth. The laser uses heat to strip away the diseased gum.
Periodontal Disease
Early periodontal disease, known commonly as gingivitis, can often be taken care of and even reversed with mindful dental care, such as teeth brushing, flossing, using of mouthwash and having regular visits to your dentist.

Our San Diego Periodontal team is led by Dr. Alireza Khansari MSD, a board-certified periodontist who is highly educated and trained in periodontal services. Dr. Alireza Khansari MSD received his post-Doctoral Specialty Certified in Periodontology and Master of Science in Dentistry from Boston University School of dental medicine.
Dr. Alireza Khansari MSD is certified in administering intravenous sedation and advanced surgical techniques that improve the experience and quality for his patients. For example, he is trained and certified in surgical techniques for dental implant placement, bone and tissue regeneration, sinus elevation and full-mouth reconstruction.
